About Me

Thanks for visiting my website and being curious enough to click on the “About Me” section! You probably aren’t here by accident as I am, as far as I know, the only Jennifer Nachshen in the whole world. But please, call me Jenn.I was born and raised in Montreal where I now live in a 19th-century home, complete with charming single-pane windows, a hidden staircase for the butler and faulty wiring. I live with my husband Philip and my adorable, fifteen-year old kidney-deficient cat. I’ve also lived in Kingston, Thunder Bay, Toronto and London, all Ontario. I have dual citizenship in Canada and Great Britain, which explains my 3pm cravings for tea and crustless sandwiches. My Russian heritage explains my fondness for vodka.I’m a Child Psychologist by training, with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Concordia University and a few years working in knowledge translation and clinical practice, I jumped at an opportunity to blog for Vitamin Daily, a Canadian lifestyle web magazine for women. Within two years I was their Montreal Editor and left Psychology for a career in writing and digital media. With three partners I started a social media and content marketing company, All Beef Media, working with clients in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industry, including Moroccanoil, BeaverTails – Queues de Castor, Glossybox, Félix & Norton, Le Château, Suzy Shier, L’Oreal Canada, Pretty Ballerinas and Urban Body Fitness Studio. We closed shop in 2011, but we’re still all great friends. In the beginning of 2011 I worked with the Montreal Gazette to launch their Montreal-focused online lifestyle magazine, Urban Expressions. I spent two great years as the Digital Content Manager, writing multiple weekly articles and leading a team of over forty freelance writers to publish timely content on the web and through our social media channels, raising our readership to almost 65,000 unique monthly hits. I’m also a freelance writer specializing in lifestyle content, particularly health, wellness, travel and personal essay writing. In addition to Vitamin Daily and Urban Expressions, I’ve published in the Globe and Mail, the Montreal Gazette, Forbes Travel Guide and ReadersDigest.ca.Recently I’ve returned to my first love, psychology, and I’m now working at the Gold Centre in Montreal, which offers services, research and knowledge to people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families. My role in this organization is evolving to bring together my training and clinical experience together with my understanding of content and social media to enhance knowledge translation and digital advocacy. I am passionate about helping bridge the gap between science and experience to help people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and the people who love them.In my spare time I can usually be found with my nose in a book or magazine or crossword puzzle. I spend lots of time online (I like to call it “research”) and I’m a bit of a TV junkie. When I’m not being entertained by Hollywood or websites featuring inter-species animal friendships, I try to keep fit through running, yoga, circuit training, weights and shopping. That sounds like I’m sportsy, but I can assure you it is not the case. I stopped eating meat last year and I’m learning how to cook and bake one recipe at a time. I also take singing lessons, although I am not sure they are helping.

This site is completely and utterly selfishly all about me and the things I care about. On my blog you’ll find posts about books, food, science, beauty, news, health, psychology, fashion and anything else that is currently piquing my interest. I’d love to hear from you, whether you’ve got a cool idea, an interesting offer or just something to say. And let me know if I can help you in any way.

Unless, of course, you want me on your dodgeball team.
