Welcome to my New Blog
This is the fourth time I have tried to start my own blog. My first kick at the can was Avoid Prison, a travel blog I created when I went to Thailand, mostly to avoid having to send multiple individual emails. But without a trust fund or sugar daddy, I could only really afford to update a travel blog for a couple of weeks every couple of years. The second time I tried to focus on personal essays, writing one a day on my Plan Be blog, in which I smugly began each essay title with the word “Be.” I bored myself silly within a month. Then I tried to focus on short story writing, only to discover that, when it comes to fiction, I’m more consumer than creator.
This time will be different.
The best blogs have consistent themes. They focus on fashion, obsess about celebrities, offer vegan recipes, gluten-free recipes, paleo recipes, and recipes for living the good life. They build up audiences and draw in advertisers while the authors stake their claims in their own personal blogging kingdom. We have mommy bloggers, beauty bloggers, fashion bloggers, food bloggers, travel bloggers and more.
I simply don’t have that intensity of focus.
This blog will be about any of the thousands of things I think about during a day, from fashion to science to food to books to shoes to psychology to makeup to travel. I’m thrilled if you want to read it and not even the least bit hurt if you don’t. I’ll try to write as often as possible, but if I skip a few weeks, I’m probably just being lazy.
Fifth time is the charm, right?
I’m doubtful I will get many responses, but if you have any thoughts on what you’d like to see me write about on my new blog, please let me know in the comments below. Don’t all shout at once!
